Just got off the phone with...
Tony Dimitriades. I was nervous and excited at the same time. Look for an announcement at tompetty.com regarding the tour.

The Tweeter Center show WILL happen. When tickets will go on sale exactly is another question.

This is a crazy business that I'm in love with. She's bitten me more than a few times, but I still keep coming back for more!

Some of you know, but there are SO many people involved in planning a tour. If one thing changes in one town, like a scheduling conflict, it can have a domino effect on the WHOLE tour! I understand this and Tony knows it. I only post information when I can verify it.

The Boston show will happen and look for lots more cities to be announced, just be patient. The WI show and the Atlanta show are festivals and probably the only ones on this tour.

Summerfest is different because it would be IN Marcus Amphitheatre... there are seats involved.

And YES, like I said earlier WITH THE BLACK CROWES!

Boston Show
Just got a conflicting report from Massachusettes! The band may be playing Mansfield, could be Foxboro. Keep an eye on the Tweeter Center site and the Gilette Stadium site. Either way, they're 3 or 4 miles apart, they'll be playing somewhere in MA! I was told that their contract has a 250 mile clause stating that they can not play within that radius of the venue. There could also be a date clause, then again, it could all be bullshit! haha

Not Losing Integrity
Barry Drake wrote me back this morning. I wrote Barry yesterday after posting the article below. I was curious to know in what context Tom Petty was used in his lectures.

Hi Sean,
I deal with Tom Petty in 3 places in my Lectures. In the late 70s as an early "Heartland American Rocker" (along with John Cougar Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger) and then again in the early 80s as someone who learned how to deal with MTV and videos without losing his musical integrity. I also talk about how his move to California broke him out of the "Southern Rock" genre and broadened his appeal and his longevity. I also do a section on The Traveling Wilbury's in the late 80s. So as you can see he makes 3 appearences in my lectures. Not bad for a kid from Gainesville!!!!!

Barry is also from Florida. You can catch his lectures in several Universities around the Country. See link in story below.

80's Rock Music In The Video Age
As the 80s began there was a well needed burst of energy in rock & roll. The 70s had left us disappointed, exhausted and questioning whether anything positive and new could come from a 25 year old music form. Fortunately, the 80s proved that rock & roll was capable of reinventing itself with new music styles, artists and attitudes. We couldn't go back to the 60s, so we charged head first into the unknown territory of the 80s and held on for a bumpy ride.

The decade began with the election of Ronald Reagan and the death of John Lennon. On a more uplifting note, MTV and compact discs gave us a new way to experience the music of Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, U2, R.E.M., Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, The Police, Run DMC, Prince, Aerosmith and yes, even Milli Vanilli. Rock & roll was back, alive and well, but it sure had changed.

80s Rock - Music In The Video Age will take us on an exciting trip through rock's fourth decade.

Mr. Drake will be at Wake Forest on the 30th. Click here for Barry Drake's website.

Satellite Radio Rocks Out
Rolling Stone has got an article on Satellite Radio... nothing new.

"...And Tom Petty DJs a free-form show, Buried Treasure, on which he plays everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Jimi Hendrix."

Where Will Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Opening Show Be?
Let's look at the dates we know so far!
Atlanta, GA - Music Midtown - June 11
Darien, NY - Darien Lake - June 25
Somewhere in WI - Rockfest - July 16
The band has never started a tour in Atlanta, since I live there, that would be cool, but I don't think that will happen! IF I was planning the tour based on the dates so far. I'd probably start the tour somewhere in FLORIDA! How cool would it be for the band to start the tour in their home state?

Please, PLEASE! NO WAGERING!

I don't know anything, I'm merely an observer!

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers @ Music Midtown
I've been thinking about this show and on the positive side, I wouldn't think the band would be providing their own lighting for these festival type shows.

Which means, the set list will not be dependant on the lighting system and they could therefore play whatever the hell they felt like playing.

Sorry Jim [Lenahan], I'm hoping they don't bring they're own lighting to these festival shows. That's gotta be a pain in the ass for you! I'm thinking you don't mind.

Fillmore Anniversary
6 years ago today, I flew 3000 miles, fell in love with Lizzy Girl and threw up at the Fillmore! All to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

To quote a friend from Atlantic Records when he heard this story,
"Now that's Rock-n'-Roll!!!"

Jackob Dylan
Just got done reading an article on The Wallflowers upcoming release "Rebel, Sweetheart." I loved "Bringing Down The Horse." But, I always had a problem with Jackob not wanting to be compared to his Father. Ok, I respect that as a songwriter wanting to be heard for what he has written. So, that being said, why don't his songwriting credits appear as Jackob Zimmerman? I mean, that IS HIS name, right?

In the article, he goes on with a quote about Tom Petty that kinda bugs me. He did induct Tom into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, right? Click here for more.

Boston Venue
A Boston venue already knows who the opening act will be! When you know the opening act, assuming a show will happen is a pretty safe bet!

Gavin DeGraw
Who!?!?!

I don't know, but why would he be trying to get the opening slot gig for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Summer Tour if it's not gonna happen!?!?!

"After the spring tour wraps up, DeGraw hopes to hit the road again in the summer and is "knocking on Tom Petty's door" for a possible opening slot."
