Through The Years
- LA times Sunday, September 24 - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have recently recorded a new version of "Surrender,"
a part of the band's late-'70s concert repertoire that was never released, for inclusion on "Through the Years,"
a two-CD anthology of the band's material. Also included will be the 1988 song "Waiting for the Night,"
featuring background vocals by the Bangles and previously available only on the 1995 six-CD box set,
"Playback." "Almost Famous" director Cameron Crowe wrote the liner notes for the new collection.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers To Play Bridge School Concert
- Attention all you TP&HB fans! Great News! Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
will be one of the headlining acts for this year's 14th Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert.
In the past, Tom appeared once solo (in 1986 with Benmont joining him for two songs) and
the whole band has appeared at three additional Bridge School Concerts (1988, 1989 and 1994).
The last one they performed at in 1994 was Stan Lynch's last appearance with the band.
This year's concert will be held on October 28th and 29th at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in
Mt. View, California. Other performers scheduled to appear include Crosby, Stills, Nash and
Young, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, the Foo Fighters, Beck and Tegan
and Sara. Tickets ($48.00 for reserved seats and $38.00 for lawn seating, plus any service charges)
will go on sale September 24th and are available through local Ticketmaster outlets or at the Shoreline
Amphitheatre box office. Tickets may also be bought online at www.sfx.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
(Be sure to check ahead of time to make sure the tickets will actually be available from these online
sites....sometimes scheduled sales change.) Tickets will NOT be available through this website (www.tompetty.com).
We've been having some difficulty with the "News" section of the tompetty.com website, but very soon it
should be fixed and I will include any more details I find out about the concert there.
Peace,
Cathy

Newsletter
- I figured many of the new fans never had the chance to see the Newsletters that were sent out to fan club members in '95 - '97.
So, until someone yells at me to take them down, you can check out the first two at this page (click here).
I'll be scanning the remaining 3 issues over the next few days. Eventually, I'll have a link on the navigation bar. Let me know what you think!

New Album(s)???
- According to Billboard Online (click here), MCA/Universal records will be releasing two albums by Tom Petty
& The Heartbreakers. Both releases are listed under "Vault Pop & Rock". The first is scheduled for October 10, 2000 and is called "Anthology". The second is scheduled for October 17, 2000 and is called "Tom Petty". Both releases are just in time for TP's birthday
(or for Holiday sales for MCA/UNI depending on how you look at it)!!!
I'm guessing that "Anthology" will be a "best of" type set from the Universal/MCA years.
The second one, "Tom Petty", to me suggests unreleased solo stuff from the "Full Moon Fever" sessions, but I could be WAY off. I'll post more info when I find out specifics.
